Customer Choice
Our customers choose their shipping carrier during checkout. Our customer is responsible for payment of GST/HST and Customs Fees. These are in addition to the shipping fees they pay Upright Birth, Inc..
HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) & GST (Goods and Services Tax)
As of January, 2012 the Canadian Border Agency has stated that all orders crossing into Canada from the US are subject to the effective GST or HST tax of the Province. This tax is assessed on the value of the merchandise. Shipping costs are not taxed by this GST/HST tax, however below Customs costs are subject to the tax.
CUSTOMS – Entry Preparation
In addition to this GST/HST tax, the Canadian government requires orders over $20 in value to be assigned a Customs Broker, to prepare the paperwork and collect the tax. Depending on which shipping method you choose, the brokerage fee could vary considerably.
US POSTAL SERVICE FEES
If you choose US Postal Service during checkout, the Postal Service will charge a flat brokerage fee (estimate at $8.50 CAD). So when they deliver your package the Postal Service will require payment of your local GST/HST + $8.50 CAD.
SHIPPING TIME
While speaking with the Canadian Border Agency, they mentioned that while US Postal Service will take 1 day to arrive at the Canadian border, the Canadian Post can take up to 2-6 weeks to deliver a package. On the US Postal website, Priority Mail is stated to take 6-10 Days to deliver to a customer. There are no guarantees of delivery time and we are not responsible for delays related to Canadian Postal Service or Canadian Customs.
